at the stock names that have been driving the rally ironically warren buffett couldn't be happier that anybody about this, berkshire hathaway hitting an all-time high for the shares. take look, that is not a typo. it has never split. keep in mind for the past four years he has not outperformed the s&p 500. we will be talking just a moment about that, is it a disappointment? look at the other stocks doing very well, 10% of the s&p 500 names are hitting all-time highs. names like tripadvisor, disney, directv, will get this number, two of these names are warren buffett names. right now you're looking at all-time highs, many of them are not even shown on the board, but quite a day, the s&p 500 defying the odds since the march lows. coming off the floor by 937-point for the s&p. warren buffett is somebody who never worried, or what has driven it, let's bring up cvs. we picked this one out because this is the floor of the market, that name is up 1444%. not bad, not bad at all. news corp. has done very well. depending on what properties they have have done extraordinarily well. as i mentioned, here w

byron. melissa: warren buffett on if the recent decline is a buying opportunity. lori: and taxed to death in the golden state. golden state. revenue of income tax creating a multi-billion dollars budget surplus and the governor warning it may not last. melissa: because they're going to spend it. lori: of course, of course. let's get to the market, our first check on the floor of the new york stock exchange. the dow back near 15,000. two points away now. nicole: it is a monumental day, a historic day on wall street when you see the major averages breaking through. including the dow jones industrial through 15,000. trading as high as 16,900. 10 points off of the levels right now. the s&p 50 s&p 500 set new recod intraday all-time highs. the tech heavy nasdaq also set intraday highs we have not seen since the year 2000. we look at one-week charts of how we really jumped today coming on the heels of our jobs report. coming in better than expected, and so with that giving us a boost we needed coupled with a lower dollar. oil and gold has been mixed, but plenty of other rows. caterpill

in omaha forewa forewarn warren buffett's shareholder meeting, and tomorrow's markets. stocks powered, the dow and s&p 500 to record highs on positive news about the labor market. for the first time ever, the dow traded above 15,000, and the s&p closed above 1600. and for the s&p, this was a long-time coming. the index first closed above 1500 in march of 2000. so it took 13 years for the benchmark to crack this new psychologically important level. and here are the numbers. the dow surged 142 points today. but closed just below the 15,000 mark. the nasdaq jumped 38. the s&p rose 16 points, closing at 1614, a new record high. >>> well, susie, investors snapped up stocks on news that american businesses added more jobs than expected in april. 165,000, to be precise, with the unemployment rate falling to 7.5%. average hourly earnings up .2 of a percent, and job numbers for february and march were revised sharply higher. we have two reports looking more closely at that surprising jobs report. and today's reaction on wall street. we begin with bob pisani at the new york stock exchange. >> i

,000 people venture to omaha to hear warren buffet opine on the state of the annual meeting. buffet asked for a volunteer who dislikes his stock to travel to omaha to debate the oracle, himself. sure enough, cast, whose short berkshire hathaway, asks, hey, you know what, i'll take that whiping. i suspect buffet willed a minister this to cash. right now, it's about as healthy as i've seen it with that terrific position they got in housing. they got the rising price of insurance with them with geico. they need 15 minutes there t. new bounty with the transporters of fuel the terrific railroad, of course, all those big stock portfolio. earlier this week in our off the carts segment, we suggested berkshire could be breaking out. i suspect this weekend's confab, it will be the launching pad for my preferred way to play warren buffet. which is what i have been recommending for ages and am proud of this. if you miss anything from this weekend, i tell you, don't worry. because becky quick is out there and we will get three full hours of warren on monday morning on "squawk box." i set the recorder.

action." warren buffett's berkshire hathaway reporting quarterly earnings after the bell. better than expected on both the top and bottom line. $43.87 billion in revenue for the first quarter. quarterly operating profit rising 42%, to $3.78 billion. that's up from $2.67 billion. profits helped in part by better results in insurance, investments and its gains in dririve contracts. management saying the gains contributed to changes in fair values of their put option contracts. investors now see a floor in berkshire's a-class shares of 144,6 $144,630 or, about 20% over the reported book value of the conglomerate. since december, buffett had had board authorization to buy shares of up to 20% over book value. berkshire holding its annual meeting this weekend in buffett's hometown of omaha. still, the most expensive stock per share in the u.s., closed today at yet another record high of $162,904. melissa, they are such big numbers, we're not used to talking about such big numbers with just one stock. unbelievable. >> that is true. bertha, thank you so much. now, as the oracle of omaha kicks
